โœฆ Synopsis


A mechanism is proposed for the vibrational excitation of the 0: ion formed in alkali-oxygen collisions. This mechanism implies a direct momentum transfer between the colliding partners; its efficiency is determined by the vrbrational period of the target as compared with the interaction time. The predicttons of the model are tested by threedimensional trajectory surface-hopping calculations performed on tao diabatic potential-energy surfaces. The results of the calculations are in good agreement with the predictions and with avsilablc experimental data.
