✦ Synopsis

Infrared and Raman spectra of anhydrous and hemi-hydrated pyrazine-oxalic acid crystallized complexes and their deuterated analogues have been investigated between 4000 and 30 cm-1 in the 400-90 K temperature range. Pyrazine retains its high molecular symmetry and the two nitrogens are involved in the complexation. From the spectroscopic data it is found that the general pattern consists of infinite chains of alternated pyrazine and oxalic acid molecules built by OH. -. N hydrogen bonds with Ron... N = 2.65 ~,. For deuterated and hemi-hydrated derivatives, this hydrogen bond is weaker.

Oxalic acid, C~2~O~4~H~2~, and 4,4′-bipyridyl, C~10~H~8~N~2~, crystallize in a 1:1 ratio. The asymmetric unit consists of one oxalic acid (OXA) molecule and one 4,4'bipyridyl (BPY) molecule in general positions, together with one half-OXA molecule and one half-BPY molecule; the latter two molecules
