✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Acid and basic solutions of ^15^N and D substituted guanines have been investigated by infrared and Raman spectroscopy. Monoanion and dianion formation have been followed by spectra changes; N^7^, N^9^H tautomery has also been studied by comparing with methylated derivatives. Assignment of the band frequencies have also been proposed. Analysing ^15^N results have permitted precise comparisons between the neutral form spectra and the anionic or cationic form spectra.Abbreviations used: IUPAC‐IUB abbreviations are used throughout: m^7^−Gua or m^7^ ‐guanine: 7‐methyl‐guanine, etc.

A spectroscopic study of glutathione (GSH) and glutathione disulfide (GSSG) has been performed using Fourier-transformed infrared absorption and Raman scattering in order to pinpoint the sites of complexation of these two species with water and particularly with H2O2. Molecules of GSH and GSSG were
