✦ Synopsis
Vibrational excitation u = 0 -1 and u = 0 -2 of CO by proton impact has been measured at a scattering angle of 0" and in the energy range 5 to 90 eV. The measured energy dependence of the differential cross sections is characterized by an oscillatory behaviour superimposed on a linearly rising function. The mean energy dependence can be described by a simple theoretical model based on the Born approximation and the dipole interaction_ The superimposed oscillations are interpreted as glory oscillations due to trajectories which have probed inner regions of the potential_
