Abstract

A vibrational analysis has been carried out for the two crystalline forms of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF~2~). The Raman spectrum of the planar form of PVF~2~ is also reported. The band assignments are made on the basis of the spectral properties including the infrared dichroism and Raman intensities. A force field is derived based on a force constant refinement procedure utilizing the frequency data for both crystal forms.
