โฆ Synopsis
The influence of large amplitude on the free vibrations of rectangular plates with linearly varying thickness is analysed wherein the effect of transverse shear deformation is also included.
The study of the large amplitude vibrations of plates has received much attention in recent years (l-8). However, the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotatory inertia have not been considered except by Wu and Vinson (9,lO) and Singh et al. (11). Wu and Vinson (9) introduced the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotatory inertia in the Berger-type equations for a transversely isotropic plate and plates composed of composite materials. Singh et al. (11) analysed a similar problem using Von Karman's theory. In this paper the effect of transverse shear deformation on the large amplitude vibration of a rectangular plate with linearly varying thickness is considered.

A shallow shell theory is presented for the geometrically non-linear analysis of moderately thick isotropic spherical shells. Effects of transverse shear deformation and rotatory inertia are included in the governing equations of motion by means of tracing constants. When these effects are ignored,
