β¦ Synopsis
The small displacement vibrations of a rotating circular string restrained by point and distributed springs are studied in the present paper. The model used includes the translating string as a special case. The governing equations and boundary conditions are derived using Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions are obtained for free vibrations and some specific cases are discussed. In addition, approximate solutions with trigonometric shape functions are constructed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Numerical results are given, showing the effectiveness of the Rayleigh-Ritz formulation constructed, and some features of the string vibration and stability are discussed.
