✦ Synopsis
to 2.4'10 when the same wax was bleached by chromium trioxide-sulphuric acid mixture. The wax could be bleached to a white product.
From Table , it is seen that the high FFA oil fractions obtained from the sludges, when vacuum-distilled yielded 52OIo and 56Oio pure light coloured mixed fatty acids. The solid acids (mainly palmiiic and some liquid acids) proportion of distilled fatty acids varied according to the nature of original oil fractions.
The results of some trials for utilization of crude rice bran wax in factories may be summarized as follows: Though the crude and unprocessed rice bran wax could not compete with carnauba wax in lustre giving property, oil absorption capacity was quite satisfactory and it gave a nice homogeneous product when used with other waxes. This shows the good compatibility of rice bran wax with other waxes.
A c k n o w l e d g e m e n t W e wish to thank MIS. Foods, Fats and Fertilisers, Tadepalligudem, for supplying samples of sludges of crude rice bran oil and also those firms who have tested the suitability of rice bran wax in the manufacture of their products. Our thanks are also due to Joint Committee of Indian Central Oilseeds Committee and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research for financing a project on Oilseed Milling and Extraction under which the present work has been done.
