โฆ Synopsis
The book contains a great deal of very specialized information in experimental, theoretical, graphical and tabulated forms and is often more in the form of a useful, very solemn, sophisticated commentary by the writer on the uses and problems with vacuum pumps, gauges and systems rather than a routine description of experimental methods with appropriate theory. As such. it contains much information not commonly found in the usual Western European and American books on vacuum science and technology but at the same time, it does not contain much of the information that is found in such books. Its value is chiefly to the experimental nuclear scientist.
So it appears strange to Western eyes and it emphasizes the vexed problems of satisfactory translation of technical material from the Russian.
The book is divided into four parts containing together 10 chapters. An indication of the contents is perhaps best given by a translation of the main headings and of the sub-headings of the sections into which this text is divided. The translation is given literally and followed (where needed) by comments to indicate the contents more fully.
