โœฆ Synopsis

The origin of some unusual events detected in X-ray emulsion chambers (XEC) of the Pamir experiment is still not sufficiently understood. One such unusual phenomenon is the observation of so-called penetrating cascades in deep lead chambers. Estimates show that qualitatively such events can be explained by multiple successive interactions of PeV energy muons. In this paper, calculations of the expected number of penetrating cascades in Pamir XEC produced by very high-energy muons for different processes of their generation in the atmosphere are presented.
