Abstract

A comparison is made between vertical temperature profiles obtained concurrently from land and lake stations about one‐half mile apart. Tethered balloons were used to support modified radiosondes up to 1,000ft. The results of 46 ascents are time‐grouped to show significant differences between the profiles throughout most of the 24 hours. These differences are mostly obviously consistent with the difference in thermal properties of the underlying surfaces, but in some respects a more complex relation, associated with the lake breeze, may be involved.
