✦ Synopsis
Effective means for suppressing fluidization in moving-bed uptransport have been studied, and new types of solids disengagers developed. Vibration. static electricity, and dynamic over-pressure were observed experimentally, and the necessary conditions for stable operation were determined. An improved wall-stress probe and a new-type void detector of high sensitivity were developed for accurate measurement of wall s&s and voidage di&ibution along the uptransport &be.. Computer solutions of the equations develoDed in Part I ILi, H. and Kwauk, M., 1989, Chem. Enana Sci. 44.249-2591 are in aood agreement with _experimental data. Critical pneumatic moving-bed transport was approached in experiments with a gas pressure drop of about 1.5 times that needed to overcome the weight of the material under transport. This pressure-drop ratio is considerably lower than Sandy's experimental result of 2.5. Although critical movingbed transport is difficult to achieve in practice, it sets the norm for rational design and operation.
