Veronika és una adolescent que viu els somnis i desitjos de qualsevol noia de la seva edat: té una bona feina, freqüenta bars musicals, coneix nois, surt amb alguns d’ells… Però no és del tot feliç. Hi ha un buit, a la seva vida. Sap que li falta alguna cosa, i és per això que, un matí de novembre del 1997, Veronika decideix morir. En el seu camí cap a la mort, Veronika s’adona que cada segon de l’existència és una elecció entre viure i desistir.
