✦ Synopsis

compound is a bit more active against Sarcina lutea, Bacillus cereus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Serratia murcescens. There are not any important differences in activity between DLLLM and LLLM either. In consequence one can consider that the mechanism of action of these N*-Lauroyl amino-acid derivatives against the bacteria cells is not influenced by the stereochemistry of these kind of compounds.

It is of great interest that these substances keep their biological activity independent of their optical purity since, from a technological point of view, it is difficult and expensive to isolate pure dastereoisomers.

From a chemical point of view the common feature of this type of compounds is the presence of strongly basic group attached to a equimolecular amount of hydrophobic chain and that their antimicrobial activity is dependent of both ones.

The biocide action of these molecules is very quick and it is related with the amount of itself adsorbed to the bacteria.

Recent microbiological studies' show that these compounds are effective antiseptics or disinfectants.
