✦ Synopsis

The velocity histories of vaporizing fuel drops injected downward into stagnant gas have been calculated for three possible cases of drag coefficients, and assuming a general "Dn-relation '' for the rate of depletion of the vaporizing drop. Except for the cases of C D = 24u/vD and n = 2 and 3, the solutions have to be obtained numerically, using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. The results show that the predicted velocity histories depend quite strongly on the index n, which can be related to the nature of the ratecontrolling phenomena during the combustion process.
