✦ Synopsis
Book Reuiews
second-order elliptic boundary value problems via difference methods. Weak solutions of elliptic systems and Sobolev spaces in Chapter 3 set the stage for the long (130 pages) Chapter 4 on finite-element methods. Chapter 5 concerns direct and iterative procedures for solving the discrete problems generated in the previous chapters. Parabolic problems occupy Chapter 6. In particular the method of lines, Galerkin methods, and error control are found. Chapter 7 is devoted to hyperbolic problems and Chapter 8 to variational equations. The last chapter is devoted to boundary integral and boundary element methods. An extensive bibliography and a subject index complete the work.
