โฆ Synopsis
Computer have added two more models to the top of their range. The new models, the DN 460 and the DN 660 workstations (nodes in Apollo terminology) include a hardware floating point processor to handle IEEE format single and double precision numbers, a bit-slice pipelined processor with separate data and instruction cache memory, and virtual address space of up to 256 Mbyte/process. Both machines work at more than 1 MIPS. The DN460 has a monochrome display with a resolution of 1024 x 800 pixels, with 128 kbyte of display memory. The DN660 has a colour display with a resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels, and up to 2 Mbyte of display memory. The DN460 costs from ยฃ32 785; the DN660 from ยฃ45 235. At the same time Apollo has announced an Ethernet controller which may be linked into the Domain local area network. The Ethernet Domain Gateway consists of an Ethernet controller and transceiver, TCP (transmission control protocol) and IP (internetworking protocol) software. The Gateway costs ยฃ2 910. Other new Apollo products include the DSP160 Domain server processor for computationally intensive applications. The DSP160 has a proprietary bit-slice CPU, with hardware floating point and two cache memories. Each process has 256 Mbyte of virtual address space. The DSP160 may be shared through an Apollo network. Prices start at ยฃ26 975. (Apollo Computer UK Limited,
