✦ Synopsis
ETHICS is defined at the start of this book as 'the obligations of a moral nature which overn the practice of medicine'. As such the are, and have afways been, of concern to all who practise m d c i n e and allied professions, and in these days when a better informed public is often questioning certain aspects of medical practice, an authoritative account of medical ethics in one book is valuable.
Perhaps the word 'dictionary' may be a little misleading. The book is largely a collection of short essa s by a distinguished list of authors on all medical matters in wiich ethical problems may arise, arranged in alphabetical order. In some of the more controversial subjects more than one author contributes. Most entries are followed by a few key references to relevant publications.
This book should be in every medical school library, and students should be encouraged to look up relevant entries when they meet ethical problems on the wards. All who are concerned with health care in the broadest sen?, and not only doctors, could usefully have this book on their shelves.
