β¦ Synopsis
tients with DH, while DH had been diagnosed in 3.7%-11.1% of patients with known CD. 1 In fact, there is growing evidence that in both DH and CD there is a production of IgA antibodies against epidermal and tissue transglutaminase, respectively. 1,2 The latter enzymes are homologous and, thus, patients with CD with or without DH may have antibodies against both enzymes. However, DH seems to associate not only with CD, but also with other autoimmune diseases, lymphomas and, rarely, UC. 2 Recently, Alonso-Llamazares et al 2 found that 6 (2.3%) of 264 patients with DH had UC, while very few case reports with DH and UC have been published in the literature. [3][4][5] The exact pathogenesis has not elucidated, but it is has been speculated that UC might increase the permeability of the intestinal mucosal barrier, allowing antigen entrance into the blood circulation. 2
