✦ Synopsis
The existence of a long-term variation, related to the solar activity, of the average a-particle abundance in the solar wind has been suggested by Robbins et al. (1970) and recently confirmed by Bollea et al. (1972) andOgilvie (1972). Hirshberg et al. (1972b), comparing the distribution of the a-particle abundance (N~/Np) observed by Vela-3 (during the rising part of the present solar cycle) and HEOS-1 (at the solar maximum), found that the main difference was the more frequent occurrence, near * Details on HEOS-1 c~-particle measurements have been given by Formisano et al., 1970.
