✦ Synopsis
Thls paper presents a numerical analysls ofa nonlinear elastic impacted rod. The geometrical relations, mechanical equihbrium equations are linear, while the constltutwe relations are nonlinear. Computations are based on spectral methods generahzed to include nonlinear cases. A recurrent vanational spectral method is introduced m whlch a discretization of the space and time variables of a function Js treated m the same way The iterative weak solutlons are defined. The domain of a function is dlvided along a ware front to account for a boundary condJtion for stresses glven by the Heaviside function and to include a jump of stresses on the ware front. Moduli of D54S a[ummum al[oy are used m the computations. The results indlcate that nonlinear displacements and stresses are greater than corresponding linear ones.
