## Abstract Landslides are natural processes triggered by complex relationships between many conditioning factors. In Rio de Janeiro city, intense rainstorms combined with steep slopes, usually occupied by slums, create favourable conditions for landslide generation. In general, slope failures are
We investigated the changes of saturated hydraulic conductivity, K sat , with depth of latosols developed on Precambrian basement rocks under primary rainforest, pasture and teak. In all cases, K sat decreased with depth, with most of the decrease occurring between the surface and a depth of 30 cm.
