✦ Synopsis

The F-ion is weakly solvated in acetonitrile-water mixtures. In the mixture with 50% (mole) of water, the fluoride ion solvation transfer activity coefficient is logi = 5.1; it increases up to 16.7 in anhydrous acetonitrile. In these two mixtures, the equimolar buffer HF/H+ imposes pF-values of 6.4 and 16.8 respectively and the HFz-/HF buffer system imposes pF-values of 2.6 and 5.8. Variations of the solvation of HFz-, HF and H+ species as a function of the water content of the mixtures are also determined.
