โœฆ Synopsis

In their paper on stroke directions Franks, Davis, Totty, Hardcastle and Grove [I] describe some phenomena of handwriting substantially dependent on the writing hand. Of 117 left-handed writers, 76% wrote the cross-stroke of the block capital J from right to left. Of 251 right-handed writers, none did so. Results are presented for the direction of the horizontal stroke and the circular stroke in several other letters, and for the occurrence in a handwriting of at least one circular stroke written clockwise in any test character. These results are significant and might, with their statistical analysis, have been presented without apology.
