We use inelastic neutron scattering from polycrystalhne Y2BaNiOs and Y2BaNio.9sZno.0405 specimens to demonstrate that the spin fluctuations in this compound are one-dimensional. In addition they are gapped, in accord with the S=I nature of the Ni 2+ and the Haidane conjecture. The gap remains well d

We analyze the thermal conductivity of frustrated spin-1 2 chains within linear-response theory focusing on its frequency dependence at finite temperatures. Using exact diagonalization, the low-frequency limit of the thermal conductivity is discussed in the high-temperature regime.
