✦ Synopsis
We have utilized solid carbontetrafluoride as a transparant inert matrix for vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopic stgdics of impurity states of xenon. methyl iodide and acetylene (in the range 2000-l 100 A). n=2 and n=3 Wannier stztes ha>e been observed teadiG to quantitative information concerning the conduction bane! of solid CF+ Large blue shifts of the intermediare excited states can be rationalized in terms of central cell corrections to the rz=l Wannier state.
Recent experimental
and theoretical work has established that the lowsst extravalence Rydberg state of atoms and molecules imbedded in solid and liquid rare-gas matrices is amenable to experimental
