β¦ Synopsis
The vacuum ultraviolet excitation spectrum and visible luminescence spectra of Y 2 O 2 S:Eu 3+ (10 at.%) and Eu 2 O 2 S are reported and assigned. Excitation bands peaking at 312 nm (3.97 eV) and 244 nm (5.08 eV) are assigned to S-3p and O-2p to Eu 3+ charge transfer absorptions. The bands peaking at 175 nm (7.08 eV) and 224 nm (5.54 eV) are due to absorption from the valence band dominated by O-2p orbitals to the different Y-4d conduction bands. The absorptions from the valence band dominated by S-3p orbitals to the conduction bands are weaker.

This letter presents optical spectra of EL?+ in nanocrystalline Eu,O, and Eu3+: Y203. The nanocrystalline particles condense in the monoclinic crystal structure after CO,-laser vaporization of metal oxide ceramics. The spectra of 14 nm Eu,O, particles have the same sharp lines as do micrometer-size
Y 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ and ZnOΓY 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ nanophosphor powders with different concentrations of Eu 3+ ions were synthesized by a sol-gel method and their luminescence properties were investigated. The red photoluminescence (PL) from Eu 3+ ions with the main emission peak at 612 nm was observed to increa
