✦ Synopsis


Oligomers of polystyrene (PS) obtained from initial degradation studies of an anionic polymerized styrene have been degraded in uucuo using the molecular still method at temperatures between 150 and 250Β°C. The volatile decomposition products were separated and characterized by gel permeation chromatography, gas liquid chromatography, infrared spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance. The products of pyrolysis showed that at 150Β°C the major component formed was the dimer, whereas at 250Β°C, the trimer was the major component.
