โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
The study of large groups of individuals (from reactive arthritis epidemics, for example) for epidemiologic and genetic data has been hampered by the techniques by which HLA typing is performed. Microlymphoโcytotoxicity is costly not only in materials but also in the time required to perform a given assay and thus does not lend itself to large scale testing. To study such epidemics, in the best way, one must be able to respond as soon as possible after the epidemic is recognized and on a large scale.
We thus examined HLAโB27 typing by flow cytometry and commercially available monoclonal antibodies. Two commercially available monoclonal HLAโB27 antibodies were compared. We conclude that the utilization of monospecific HLAโB27 antibodies and flow cytometry allows for the determination of HLAโB27 and HLAโB7 phenotype of a large number of individuals over a short period of time, thereby making the study of a large group both economical and feasible. ยฉ 1994 WileyโLiss, Inc.

Typing for HLA-B27 by serological methods is routinely performed using the microlymphocytotoxic test (MLCT). Since monoclonal antibodies (MAB) against HLA-B27 are available, flow cytometry (FC), which requires less time than the MLCT has been developed as an alternative technique. The aim of the pre
## Abstract ## Background Human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLAโB27) is a major histocompatibility complex class 1 molecule that is strongly associated with the disease ankylosing spondylitis. Testing for HLAโB27 is of diagnostic value because 90% of patients with ankylosing spondylitis have the B27 an
The determination of HLA-B27 (827) status is important in the diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis, Reiter's disease, and other arthropathies. Flow cytometric (FCM) typing of 827 is a relatively new method which allows for rapid turnaround time and low cost. However, different leukocyte populations m
## Background: The primary diagnosis of non-hodgkin's lymphoma/leukemia (nhl) by fine-needle aspiration (fna) is controversial. the authors reviewed their experience with fna and flow cytometry (fc) to determine the usefulness and limitations of these techniques in the diagnosis of nhl. ## Methods
