โœฆ Synopsis

Supported by the U.S. National Cancer Institute through a series of contracts to the field staff's organization affiliated with the Costa Rican government, and with other contractors supporting the specimen handling and data management efforts. Some labor and supplies were supplied to the project at reduced cost by the various companies involved. Cytyc, in particular, provided clinical materials at cost and subsidized the cytopathology effort in Dr. Hutchinson's laboratory. However, all clinical work and data analyses were strictly masked and controlled entirely by the investigators at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), who have no commercial interests in any of these products and who are strictly monitored by the NCI Ethics Office to prevent conflicts of interest.

The authors acknowledge the expert technical assistance of Kay Helgesen of Information Management Services, who is the essential, wonderful programmer for the Costa Rican project. They also acknowledge the superb Costa Rican field staff who make all these analyses possible.
