By a facile reaction route, we synthesized five technologically important transition metal carbide nanoparticles including cubic NbC, TaC, VC, hexagonal WC and MoC at relatively low temperatures. Here, in this rapid reaction process, we choose an organic reagent melamine and transition metal oxides
