Introduced into the model of a document retrieval system were users who are represented by their profiles. A separate group among them are experts. The possibilities of taking advantage of experts for retrieving documents are analysed. The procedures of selecting a competent expert and the ways of utilizing him for the ordering of documents in the system response to the user's query are described.
