If l/y, the reciprocal of the surface free onergy, is plotted radially as a function of orientation, the resulting surface can be treated just as a free-enthalpy surface of a ternary system. Double and triple tangent planes yield orientation domains where a macroscopic plane surface will break up into two and three sorts of facets respectively. One of the results is that theoretically a Wulff equilibrium form may have edges petering out in a continuously curved surface.
