We have been continuing our comparison study and have not yet seen any fractures on the "four view" series that were not also well shown by pantomography. We have seen several more fractures that were well visualized by pantomography but were not visible on the "four view" series.

Contrary to Dr. Hupp's observations, we have found that fractures of the mental and subcondylar regions are well shown by pantomography. There are several types of mandibular pantomography machines available. Perhaps Dr. Hupp's experience is with a machine that demonstrates these regions less well than the one we use. Incorrect radiographic technique may also explain the falsely negative pantomographs Dr. Hupp remembers.
