โฆ Synopsis
The design to manufacturing process has traditionally suffered from a failure to incorporate information relevant to manufacturing procedures at the design stage. Problems arising from design or during the subsequent manufacturing process tend to receive separate consideration, with a consequent lack of feedback. This paper details a design procedure based on an executer-centred structure operating on an explicit and separate design process model in which decision-making is incorporated within an ongoing design and problem-solving process. The technique uses Petri nets and constraint modelling to provide a basis for initial design decisions as well as solutions to downstream problems, which may be found by rerunning the procedure incorporating new information relevant to the problem.
