✦ Synopsis

In this paper, a new approach to introduce alternative selectivities to Ž . electrokinetic chromatography EKC using -electron rich anions as separation buffer additives is presented. We describe the results obtained with two dyes, Ž Cardiogreen and a porphyrine-based additive tetraphenyl porphyrine tetrasul-. fonate , for the separation of nitroaromatic and phenolic compounds. Unfortunately, the new additives preclude direct UV-vis detection with traditional working procedures. A strategy to overcome the detection problem making use of a partial filling of the capillary and the application of a counterpressure has been developed. Achievable efficiencies and selectivity changes as compared with SDS have been investigated.

## Abstract Although electrochromatography in packed beds or monolithic columns has gained enormous interest, techniques based on charged pseudostationary phases like micelles are of high practical importance in electrically driven separation science. However, nonmicellar alternatives, __e.g.__, us
