This paper presents a variation of Biot's consolidation theory for analysing problems involving unsaturated soils, and implemented using the "nite element method. The numerical method is applied to a few geotechnical problems as examples and the results obtained are compared to some published data.
Principal component analysis is used to simplify the extraction of the natural frequencies and their corresponding orthonormal mode shapes directly from experimental data of unknown #exible structures. A control law is designed using a state-space modal model and is tested on di!erent structures. Th
