Platinum and palladium prices to rise in 2007

Consultant group GFMS reports that the prices of platinum and palladium are expected to reach $1450/ounce and $450/ounce, respectively, in 2007. Platinum production totalled 7.01 M ounces in 2006, up 6% year on year. Output growth continues to be led by South Africa. Palladium supply grew 5% in 2006 to reach 7.26 M ounces, but is projected to decline 2% in 2007 because of an anticipated downturn in production from Norilsk Nickel.
