✦ Synopsis
Amnic can modipg the urinary excretion of porphyrins in animals and humans. Arsenic also interferes with the rrdivitks d several enzymes of the heme biosynthesis pathway, such as aminolevulinate synthase (ALA-S), poqbbWmgen deamimse (PBGD), umprphyrinogen 111 synthase (Urn III S), umprphyrinogen decarboxylase (URO-D), coproporphyrinogen oxidase (COPRO-0), ferrochelatase and heme oxygenase (H-0). This review dud# with mbc-brrsed techniques for the analysis of porphyrins in human and d e n t urine and several heme enzymes with discussion on their usefulness as early biomarkers of arsenic toxicity.
