✦ Synopsis
AMtract--A variety of diurethanes mostly based on at least one furanic reagent were prepared using either aliphatic, benzylic or furfurylic diols in conjunction with various monoisocyanates or aliphatic, aromatic and furanic diisocyanates in conjunction with n-butanol and 2-furfuryl alcohol: Study of the kinetics of these condensations showed second-order behaviour, with two distinct phases when asymmetric reagents were used. The reactivity of the furanic isocyanates and alcohols were assessed and compared to that of the conventional reagents used in this work. The products were fully characterized in terms of structure and thermal properties. This investigation provided ample evidence that the furan ring is not involved in side-reactions and does not induce any specific chemical fragility in the diurethanes prepared.
