โœฆ Synopsis

If dual channel subtracted cystometry is to demonstrate detrusor pressure, correct placement of the catheter in the bladder is critical. Two cases of inadvertent retrograde catheterisation of the ureter during cystometry are described. In one case the patient had undergone previous ureteric reimplantation, and catheterisation occured on two occasions. In this case radiological evidence of the catheter in the distal ureter was obtained. In both patients short lived phasic contractions of 15 -20 cm H,O pressure were seen throughout the filling phase, this being compatible with previously reported patterns of ureteric activity.
