influenced by an interest in gasified coal as a feedstock in the USA, came after a $200 M Federal encouragement for so-called 'clean coal' technology in the recent energy bill. Rentech has signed a memorandum of understanding in early 2005 for the development of two 35,000 bbl/day coal-to-liquids plants in Ohio. It is also converting an ammonia plant in East Dubuque, IL, to operate on gasified coal. Several power facilities based on gasified coal have also been proposed.
