Primary cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection with marked constitutional symptoms is rare in immunocompetent individuals and in those with iatrogenic immunosuppression, except transplant recipients. Four patients admitted to hospital with clinical illnesses associated with primary CMV infection were ident
