โฆ Synopsis
We have operated on 79 eyes of 78 patients with C3 to D3 proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Sixty-one eyes were managed with gas and 18 eyes were managed with liquid silicone. The gas and silicone groups were not comparable. With at least six months follow-up (average follow-up 9.7 months), 46 of 61 gas eyes (75.4%) were reattached. Thirty-four eyes (55.7%) had 5/200 or better visual acuity. Ten of 18 silicone eyes (55.6%) were reattached and only 22.2% had 5/200 or better visual acuity. The findings of this study point out the need for a randomized, controlled clinical trial of intraocular gas versus liquid silicone in the management of proliferative vitreoretinopathy.
