✦ Synopsis
By cyclic voltammetry it is shown, that gold-platinum alloys display pronouncedly better catalytic properties in anodic oxidation ofaliphatic alcohols as compared to pure platinum. The largest increase in rate of the investigated process is observed for the alloy containing 60% ofgold and 40% of platinum. These results can be explained in terms of a lowering of the adsorption energy of the organic intermediates and oxygen containing species on the alloy surface.
