The reactions of manganese(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) acetates (1 mole) with antipyrine-4-azo-fl-ethylcyanoacetate (HL 1) and antipyrine-4-azo-fl-acetylacetone (HL 2) (1 mole) produce complexes of the M(L)2 type. ✦ Synopsis
Unsymmetrically substituted//-diketones, RCOCH2COR' (R and R'= aryl) have been synthesized and used to prepare their monothio-fi-diketone derivatives. Because of the similar basicities of the carbonyl oxygen due to the electronic effects of the R and R' groups, a mixture of the monothio-fl-diketones, RCSCHzCOR' and R'CSCH 2-COR, is formed. Several of the monothio-/~-diketones have been used to prepare their corresponding Ni H and Co I1 complexes. Mass spectral and 13C-n.m.r. data are used to confirm the formation of isomers of the monothiofl-diketonate ligands and their metal complexes.
