✦ Synopsis

Unperturbed dimensions of high molecular weight (M W = 10 6 3" 106) polyacrylonitrile samples, prepared by plasma-induced polymerization, were determined in good solvents by the Stockmayer Fixman method [for dimethylformamide (DMF)] and Lenka method (for DMF, dimethylacetamide and dimethylsulphoxide) and in a theta solvent (ethylene carbonate:water, 85:15 by weight, at 44Β°C). The results were compared with literature data. The relatively large scattering of the data is attributed to the different heterogeneities of the materials, the different methods of calculation and to the ~b 0 constant values.

## Abstract A single‐pot atom transfer radical polymerization was used for the first time to successfully synthesize polyacrylonitrile with a molecular weight higher than 80,000 and a narrow polydispersity as low as 1.18.
