Ball and Chain" Bichromophoric systems are being prepared and studied by Prof. Paddon Row's group. These molecules have C,, on the end of a rigid hydrocarbon chain linking either another C,, or a different chromophoric group.

Electron transfer can take place in these molecules and electronic coupling between the C,, and the hydrocarbon bridge is strong.
