Synthetic zeolite: exploring new applications
Research and development into new applications for synthetic zeolites is ongoing. Until recently, most synthetic zeolites were used as detergent builders, a market of 140,000 tonnes/y and accounting for 90% of demand. Consumption of synthetic zeolites for detergent builders (sodium aluminosilicate) amounted to 88,524 tonnes in 1999 and 81,450 tonnes in 2000. Production fell 17% in 2000 to 45,880 tonnes. Details are given of the latest innovations in synthetic zeolites.
