✦ Synopsis


CH(A *A-X %) emission was observed following multiple photon dissociation of ketene with an ArF laser. For rotational levels with N' from 14 to 19 the symmetric A component of the emission had higher intensity than the antisymmetric and the opposite was observed for levels with N' between 20 and 23. It is suggested that several secondary photodissociation processes, probably involving excited states of methylene, are responsible for the observed emission: for high rotational levels predissociation effects are also considered.
